Where KloudSac beats us
Three places, and they are worth being straight about.
Price per litre of foam. The Mondo Kloud is 152cm across for around $650 to $700. Our Cosy Cloud is 127cm across for $890. If your decision is purely how much foam you get for your money, KloudSac wins at every tier we compared.
Foam guarantee length. KloudSac offers a lifetime no-flat-foam guarantee. We offer 12 years. Ours is long by furniture standards and we are comfortable standing behind it, but lifetime is longer than 12 years and pretending otherwise would be silly.
Top-end size. The Lounge Kloud at 240cm x 120cm is bigger than anything we make. If you want one piece that a whole family sprawls across at once, we do not have a direct answer to it. Our equivalent is a Haven Cloud plus a Crash Cloud, which costs more.
Where we think we are the better buy
NDIS registered provider status. Comfort Cloud is an NDIS registered provider. This matters in one specific and important case: if you are NDIA-managed (sometimes called agency-managed), the NDIS requires you to buy from a registered provider. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can buy from any supplier, so for them this is not a differentiator. If you are agency-managed, it decides the question. Water-resistant inner liner. Every Comfort Cloud has a HydroShield water-resistant inner liner between the cover and the foam. Covers come off and go in the machine on a gentle cold cycle, but the liner is what protects the foam itself when a drink goes over. For a product bought for kids, and often for kids with sensory needs, this is the specification we would look at hardest.
A genuine flat crash mat. The Crash Cloud is 150cm x 180cm x 30cm, which is a landing surface rather than a chair. Round cloud chairs and crash mats do different jobs. If an occupational therapist has recommended a crash pad for proprioceptive input, a round chair is not a substitute for a flat mat with a large surface area.

Foam versus polystyrene beads
This is the choice that actually matters, and it is bigger than the difference between any two foam brands.
A traditional bean bag is filled with polystyrene beads. Beads are light, cheap and bouncy. They also compress permanently over time, which is why a bead bag that felt full in January feels half empty by December and needs topping up. They are noisy when you move, they generate static, and if the bag splits you get thousands of beads through the house that a vacuum will not fully recover.
Shredded foam behaves like upholstery instead. It is denser, quieter, does not compress away, and moulds around the body rather than sliding out from under it. That density is why foam chairs give the deep even pressure people describe as calming, and it is the reason foam is what gets recommended when the purchase is about sensory regulation rather than casual seating. It is also why foam chairs weigh 24kg to 47kg instead of 4kg, and cost five to ten times as much.
If your budget is under $300 and you want somewhere for kids to flop, a traditional bead bag from a retailer like Bean Bags R Us at $99 to $299 is the sensible purchase and no foam chair is worth stretching for. If you are buying because someone in the house needs deep pressure input, or you want a piece of furniture that is still full in five years, foam is the category to shop in.
How to choose between the foam brands
- Buying with NDIS funding and you are agency-managed: you need a registered provider, which narrows the field considerably.
- Buying on maximum size or maximum value: compare KloudSac's Grande and Lounge first.
- Buying for a child, a playroom, or anywhere spills are likely: check for a water-resistant liner, not just a washable cover. A washable cover does nothing for foam that has already got wet.
- Buying on an OT recommendation for crashing or heavy work: buy a flat crash mat, not a round chair, whoever you buy it from.
- Buying for one adult to read or game in: anything in the 127cm to 152cm range is enough. The XL sizes are for two people or for sprawling.
Common questions
Are foam cloud chairs worth the extra money over a bean bag?
If you want the chair to hold its shape for years or you are buying it for sensory reasons, yes. If you want casual extra seating for a rumpus room, no. The gap is $99 to $299 for beads against $650 to $1,100 for foam, and the honest answer depends entirely on which of those two jobs you are buying for.
Do foam cloud chairs go flat?
Shredded foam compresses far less than polystyrene beads and does not need topping up in the way a bead bag does. Both Comfort Cloud and KloudSac warrant against the foam going flat, for 12 years and for lifetime respectively.
Can you wash a foam cloud chair?
The cover, yes. Comfort Cloud covers unzip and wash on a gentle cold cycle, then lay flat to air dry in the shade. The foam itself is not washable, which is the reason to check whether the chair has a water-resistant inner liner underneath the cover.
How heavy are they to move?
Heavier than people expect. A Cosy Cloud is 24kg, a Haven Cloud is 35kg, a Lounge Kloud is 47kg shipped. These are pieces of furniture, not something a child drags between rooms. The flat Crash Cloud at 18kg is the most portable option in the category.
What size cloud chair do I need?
Roughly: 127cm diameter suits one adult or two kids, 150cm to 152cm suits two adults or two to three kids, and anything above 180cm is family-sized. Measure the floor space first, because a 180cm chair needs a 2m clear circle to be usable.
